My housemate’s band, ‘Backyards,’ have their debut ep release gig at Nation of Shopkeepers in Leeds on 15th February. You should come down. They have a shimmery, epic, arcade fire/ the national/ lanterns on the lake style vibe (not sure that describes anything at all!).

Allo Darlin- ‘wu tang clan’

mewithoutyou- the fox, the crow and the cookie

I’ve probably posted this before but it’s always worth another post. I’ve been listening to this band a lot recently, mainly ‘brother, sister.’ This song is one of my favourites though. I know a few people who don’t like this band because of the religious/spiritual content of their songs but I think that makes them even more interesting to listen to. In an ideal world, this band would be played on the radio, that way I wouldn’t have to listen to yet another song about ‘going to a club’ by some dime a dozen rnb singer or an ‘indie anthem’ by some shitty generic lad rock band.

There is a proper procedure for taking advantage of any investment.

Music, for example. Buying a CD is an investment.

To get the maximum you must LISTEN TO IT FOR THE FIRST TIME UNDER OPTIMUM CONDITIONS.

Not in your car or on a portable player through a headset.

Take it home.

Get rid of all distractions (even her or him).

Turn off your cell phone.

Turn off everything that rings or beeps or rattles or whistles.

Make yourself comfortable.

Play your CD.

LISTEN all the way through.

Think about what you got.

Think about who would appreciate this investment.

Decide if there is someone to share this with.

Turn it on again.

Enjoy yourself.

“Ride as fast as you can, they’re shooting to kill”

I went to the Dr Martens 50th birthday party the other week. Hosted by Vice mag it had Fucked Up, Pulled Apart By Horses, Kong plus a bunch of other bands playing. Fucked up were absolutely amazing. I’d never seen them before but they’d been near the top of my ‘i have to see this band live’ list and they didn’t disappoint. The energy was incredible, the pit was fun and pink eyes seems like a nice dude. He gave my a naked, sweaty hug after the gig. Bit gross haha.
The blond head in the middle of the photo, that’s me. It looks a bit like i’m sucking my thumb. I’m not though.

"In infrared is how we saw the night that lit up scarecrow plots
The nerve that pinches crippled hobbled frolicked flat on its own face"

I’ve never seen this video before…Since when did atd-i play on TFI Friday?? I sort of remember watching that show, although I was a bit too young for it really, maybe i’ve seen this before!

Great performance, even greater is the fact that the presenter switches the band name and the track title during her bit.amazing.

Another. Look at the emotion that is simply pouring onto the stage here. Again, no band does it like this anymore. The closest you’ll get is Radiohead.

This song forever changed my perception of music.

I remember the night I first heard it, I was listening to the show Steve Lamaq used to do on Radio 1 and he played Susan’s House by Eels, followed by this song. Up to that point I had never heard music like it. Music to me was either 4/4, Britpop rock songs or, what I and all my friends were listening to at the time, generic dance music, usually something from the Ministry of Sound.

Hearing a song this powerful at 12/13 years of age, when all I would listen to was ATB’s 9PM (till I come) was an eye opener.

I ended up not getting the album until I was 17, by which time the band had been broken up for like 5 years. Thankfully I can now say that ATD-i are my favourite band of all time  and that I have a much wider scope of musical interests.
